Dialysis Nurse

Roles & Responsibilities

• Patient Assessment

  Conduct thorough pre- and post-dialysis assessments, including vital signs and weight monitoring, to evaluate the patient's condition and identify any immediate health concerns.

• Dialysis Treatment Setup

  Prepare and setup dialysis machinery and materials in accordance with established protocols, ensuring all safety standards are met before the initiation of patient treatment.

• Treatment Monitoring

  Continuously monitor and adjust dialysis treatment as needed, observing patient responses, and intervening when necessary to manage any complications during the process.

• Patient Education

  Educate patients and their families about dialysis procedures, post-treatment care, and dietary restrictions to promote compliance and enhance overall treatment effectiveness.

• Record Keeping

  Maintain accurate and detailed records of each dialysis session, including patient observations, treatment adjustments, and any incidents to ensure continuity of care.

• Team Collaboration

  Collaborate with multidisciplinary healthcare teams to develop and implement comprehensive care plans, facilitating communication and problem resolution for patient-centered care.

• Infection Control

  Strictly adhere to infection control protocols and practices to prevent infection risks to patients and staff during dialysis procedures, ensuring a sterile treatment environment.

• Equipment Maintenance

  Regularly check and maintain dialysis equipment, reporting and coordinating repairs as needed to guarantee operational safety and efficiency during treatments.

Typical Required Skills and Qualifications

• Registered Nurse (RN) license with a focus on nephrology or dialysis care

• Minimum of 2 years clinical nursing experience, preferably in an acute care or dialysis setting

• Certification in dialysis nursing (CNN or CDN) is an advantage

• Strong interpersonal and communication skills to interact with patients and families

• Basic knowledge of renal anatomy, physiology, and common kidney disorders
